Title of talk:       Extending the Internet to Space

Abstract:  Data communications between Earth and spacecrafts, such as satellites, have traditionally been carried out through dedicated links. Shared links using Internet Protocol-based communication offers a number of advantages over dedicated links. The movement of spacecrafts however gives rise to mobility management issues.

This talk will discuss various mobility management solutions for extending the Internet connection to spacecrafts.  The talk with provide an overview of the network layer based  solution being developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force and compare with the transport layer based solution that have been developed at University of Oklahoma in conjunction with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Network in motion is an extension of the host mobility protocols for managing the mobility of networks which are in motion, such as those in airplanes and trains. The application of networks in motion will be illustrated for both terrestrial and space environment.

Title of talk: Vehicle Cyber Security:  A new paradigm in vehicular communications

Abstract: In recent years, more and more vehicle components have been connected with advance functions and are automated. This intelligent components are well connected to the outside world via smart phones are Road Side Units (RSU). This automation and communication can increase the risk of cyber-attack. A number of smart devices, such as smart phones which are capable of connecting to vehicle communication system can invade into automotive electronics and can cause severe damage to the vehicle communication system. When security is breached and critical information is compromised, it can cause major accidents that can even become life threatening to the driver and passengers of the vehicle. Such high risk scenarios need to be avoided and vehicle cyber threats need to be mitigated before damage can be done.

In this talk, we will discuss various approaches for vehicle cyber security in response to recent increase in cyber security risk to vehicles. We will focus on cyber security awareness, handling and mitigation of vehicle cyber security incidents, mitigation of threats and risk analysis. Present system architectures, frameworks and standards in the context of vehicle cyber security will also be discussed.
